Loved that. I used to have a big ancient clunky Remington that I picked up once at a yard sale. How plainly authentic it felt for the first little while when there was still some ink left on the decades-old ribbon. It still might be hanging around my parents' basement somewhere.
So beautiful and simple. And you know how to make your words sound just perfect. That's always been the case for me when reading your pieces: perfect, simple, profound words. But now your voiceover further validates that thought of mine.
Thank you. I loved recording it; when I listened to my second draft out loud, I knew I had to add my voice to the publishing process. Thanks for the encouragement
As a listener I didn't have any issues with it! I love the sound of your voice. I think it's hard for anyone to listen back to themselves haha. Your audio is actually pretty clean, but overall, on Substack I never really mind when it sounds like a real person in a real place.
Yes! Manual and electric. I remember what a big deal it was when they came out with the first word-processor typewriter from Smith-Corona. It had a little screen that the words would show up on before you printed to the paper, but that was the moment when the downward slide began and the keystroke to paper magic began to evaporate.
I love this. Yehudis, you truly have a gift for making people feel through the simplicity of your stories. It’s a bit awe-inspiring. Enjoy your typewriter!! 🧡
Thank you, Grace! Means a lot coming from you! I was just thinking last night how I haven't read your work in a while- and I'm super curious what your book will be like when you publish. When's it coming out?
It’s so cool to read the full story behind the note you sent. I had no idea of the drama you were dealing with in that coffee shop.
My favorite color has always been orange, so great choice. I’m glad you have it!
:)) Not going back there for a few weeks, I think I need them to forget me.
Loved this one, Yehudis. Your voice is relaxing and stimulating at the same time. ASMR essays...you’re on to something :)
Thank you, Rachael <3 Can't wait to see you record yours.
Great "comfort challenge" haha and more since you pushed through it!
Loved and enjoyed the story so much :)
Discomfort squeezes out good juice!

Something about the size and weight makes it feel that much more powerful

I think this is the funniest story in the world. I love hearing you read it!
Ahhhh thank you! Curious what you thoght about the quality of the sound- it grated my ears a little. Did it do that to you?

What a magical moment. You have a such a way of capturing the worthwhile theater of life.
:)) Thank you, Rick! Did you use typewriters once upon a time?!

Didn't last too long, didn't it...
I wonder if people stocked up on ink and feather when the typewriter came out. Their own, small rebellion.
Probably.
