I got this photo from her Instagram captured by Kelly Rigaux.
I went to see a piano artist perform on Friday night. As the sun began to set, she began to play. Her beautiful voice coated the dust covered street; Once you heard it, you were taken away. She played her piano and her fiance picked his guitar. But it was her show; so we watched her, and we listened.
Friends and strangers were chilling, drinking beer, whispering as if not to interrupt. Cars drove by, their engines disrupting her smoothness. You could see them slowing down and trying to catch some notes. They didn’t realize it, but the sound of their cars was changing her music.
Across the street, a few kids climbed in and out of their open windows. Their mom came out of the house. She looked both ways and shooed them to the other side. Those little kids with big, blue eyes, squeezed in between the bar goers and watched her. They were entranced. They stared harder than the guests who came out just for her.
A guy sat on his porch a couple houses down. I’ve never seen a porch with so much junk. He had strollers and mattresses piled up, threatening to lose their precarious balance. He sat in between all the junk and just watched her. Listened to her.
People taking evening strolls slowed down, watching. Some took seats, swept in by her golden voice. Some kept walking. Her song flew high above our feelings. We were inside a blanket of beauty. Her beauty.
For moments, here and there, everyone was entrenched. The sun turned more golden with every song. The songs sounded sweeter with every drink. Her voice wove in and out of the blissful, Friday night vibes. They wove an atmosphere of finishing the week. It was her show, but her singing made it ours too.
Listen to what I heard on Friday night here. Enjoy <3

Listening now. She's beautiful. But where was this? Outside obviously somewhere, but on a neighborhood street? Your life is so rich with these moments. Do you just keep looking for the next one all day?
Your power to observe and capture these scenes so richly is a sight to behold, Yehudis. I loved the pacing of the voice over. My mind wanted to read ahead. But you've brought me to the pace of your observations–in itself the lesson.
