This is a great piece, Yehudis! You had me hooked the whole time, sitting right there with you in the bus. You choose all the right details, using concise, economic language to tell a story, ask thought-provoking questions, and reveal a little about who you are. Excuse me while I read it again.

An excellent in media res exposition of being en route. The contrast is quite intriguing: on the one hand it's somewhat a mundane account of public transportation, yet on the other hand the amount of detail pops in multisensory technicolor.

It seems reminiscent of that shift in art history that moved from high subjects like gods and Kings to the ordinary peasants in the field, only adapted for the 21st century where modern travel is relatively accessible.

Your piece certainly conjured cherished memories of my own while on adventure while also conveying the tension of unsettling discomfort and the thrilling excitement of discovery and heightened sensitivity that new places bring.

Perhaps travel keeps you mindful because of all the novelty. It would be an interesting challenge to maintain this fresh perspective to familiar surroundings.

In short, this reads like a moving vignette, sort of like a verbal Instagram post with the additional depth of including your internal experience.
