200,000 Google Searches and Counting
The average person Googles something 3-4 times a day. What about you?
In the past 8 years, I’ve used Google search over 200,000 times.
That’s 68 times a day versus the average person’s 3 - 4 searches a day*.
I’ve Googled everything from how to have sex as a shy 19-year-old to how to set up ad campaigns at my very first office job.
I’ve traveled to 10 countries, learned French, and found tentative peace with my religion by exploring the answers I found on Google.
I grew my business from 0-6 figures in 2 years, reassured my broken heart on multiple occasions, and booked 11 gigs for my band by Googling how.
I remember the night my mother introduced me to the vast expansiveness of Google. I was 7 years old, staring at the colorful logo on her sparkly 1999 Macintosh. She told me like it was a fact: “it’s named after the number googol!*” I was confused.
I knew numbers as high as a billion, a trillion and even a gazillion - but googol; it didn’t end with “ion”!
My mother explained how googol is a 1 followed by 100 zeroes. And that’s how many answers Google has. Determined to visualize the number, I grabbed something to write with and an index card.
“0...0…0…0…0…0…0…0...0…0…”
My pencil droned on and I tried to comprehend what my mother meant.
“0...0…0…0…0…0…0…0...0…0…”
My handwriting got messier as the numbers squished together more. My mother typed “what time is it in Seattle” into the blue search bar and I gasped! Instead of calculating with my fingers the 3-hour difference, the answer magically popped up, it was 5:00 pm!
I was sold. That night introduced me to the efficacy of Google. At different times in my life, it’s been my university, coach, and even my secret-whispering best friend.
Next time you catch yourself with a spark of a question in your mind; Google it. Or, if you’re unsure how to navigate a situation, want to be self-dependent at work, or even simply communicate better: ask Google.
As my mother always says: there are no stupid questions. Go and Google everything.

This is such a fun read about a simple topic! We take Google for advantage because it's so quick and accessible, but when you sit back and think about it, it's pretty fascinating!
